Do you know Jesus?
Do you know that God loves you? Do you know that He wants a relationship with you? Do you know that He sent His son Jesus to die on a cross to make that relationship possible? Do you know that God is waiting for you to believe that Jesus did that for you, so that He can start that relationship with you?
This is what the Bible says...
You are
a sinner.
... all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God... (Romans
3:23); and ... the wages of sin is death … (Romans 6:23a).
God wrote down His standard of living in the ten commandments and He
expects us to live up to that standard. His standard includes: do not
lie, do not steal, do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not
blaspheme the Lord's name, do not have any other gods, and honor your
parents.
You may think that you are a good person.
Compared to the people around you, you may very well be, but that is not
the standard that you will be judged by when you stand before Christ,
the righteous judge.
If you have ever told an untruth, you have lied;
if you have ever taken something that did not belong to you (even a
cookie from a cookie jar), you have stolen; if you have ever hated
someone, you have murdered them in your heart; if you have ever 'checked
someone out' and lusted after them, you have committed adultery in your
heart; if you have ever replaced a swearword with God's name, you have
blasphemed the Lord's name; if anything has ever been more important to
you than God, you have had other gods before Him; if you have ever
rebelled against you parents, you have dishonored them.
This is the standard you will be judged by on judgment day... my
question to you: will you be found guilty?
The penalty for sin is eternal death in hell.
Just as a civil judge cannot allow a person who has broken the law to go
unpunished, God cannot allow sin to go unpunished. In order for God to
be just and remain good, He must see sin punished (even just one sin)
and the just punishment for sin is eternal death in hell.
God provided
a Substitute
But God [demonstrated] His love toward us, in that while
we were yet sinners Christ died for us (Romans 5:8); and Not by
[good works] which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us
… (Titus 3:5a); and ... by grace are ye saved through faith; and
that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God (Ephesians 2:8).
God does not want all mankind to spend eternity separated from Him
in hell, so He sent His Son to take the penalty that we deserve for our
sins and die in our place. We cannot do anything to change our sin and
cannot escape the penalty, but Jesus can. We are completely dependent on
the mercy and grace of God.
You can be saved by grace
through faith
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that
whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
(John 3:16); and I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man
cometh to the Father but by Me. (John 14:6); and … Believe on the
Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved … (Acts 16:31).
God loves you so much that showed His grace to you by sending His
Son to die in your place. The only way to receive His free gift of
eternal life is by believing that He died in your place and that His
death paid the penalty for your sins.
When you accept that there is nothing you can do to please God or fix your sin problem and when you believe that Jesus died for your sins on the cross and fixed the problem for you, and when you ask Him to forgive your sins and tell Him that you believe that Jesus died for your sins, you start a relationship with God that will last all of eternity. That means that death is not the end of everything, but that you get to be with Him in heaven, where the relationship continues!
